Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings - I Learned The Hard Way

Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings

I Learned The Hard Way

The record marks a bold step forward for a band who almost single-handedly stewarded today’s return of Soul music to its more traditional sound.

I Learned the Hard Way was produced by Bosco Mann and recorded on an Ampex eight-track tape machine by Gabriel Roth in Daptone Records’ House Of Soul studios, the record drips with a warmth and spontaneity rarely found since the golden days of Muscle Shoals and Stax.

Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part 2

Erykah Badu

New Amerykah Part 2

In contrast to New Amerykah Part One (4th World War), which was digitally produced and political in tone, New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh features lush live instrumentation and taps into Badu’s emotional side by thematically focusing on romance and relationships.

“We used a lot of analog instruments…harps, strings, drums, piano, and even a Theremin, to give the album that sonic feel,” says Badu. “There’s a strong undercurrent of bottom, a rumbling to these songs that feels good to me. It feels like a hug.”

T.A.M.I. Show

It’s the greatest, grooviest, wildest, most exciting beat blast ever to pound the screen!

Filmed just eight months after The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, THE T.A.M.I. SHOW introduced Rock ‘n’ Soul youth culture to America in the first concert movie of the Rock era.

One of the rarest and most sought-after performance films from its time, the 1964 concert event featured future Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famers The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson And The Miracles, The Supremes and many other American and British Invasion hitmakers in their prime.

This legendary film has never been available on DVD and hasn’t been seen in its entirety since it originally appeared in theaters in 1964.

Mastered from a new High Definition transfer and uncut, this complete version features the Beach Boys’ performances that were removed following the film’s initial theatrical run.

The show was filmed at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, October 29, 1964.

Gil Scott-Heron - I’m New Here

Gil Scott-Heron

I’m New Here

His first release in 13 years.

Gil Scott-Heron came to prominence in the late 60s and early 70s and is cited as a supreme influence on countless Hip Hop vocalists and producers. Despite an incredible and influential body of work, he has not released an album since the ‘90s.

Produced by XL label owner Richard Russell, I’m New Here sees Gil reflecting on his life with his trademark vocal power and insight, sharing his visions among Russell’s flickering, electronic soundscapes; which at various times conjure up thoughts of Burial and The XX, as well as a host of Hip Hop influenced sounds. The album is brave, contemporary and quintessentially Gil Scott-Heron.
