Matt & Kim
Sidewalks
Matt & Kim are the indie pop equivalent of Red Bull and vodka: sweet, easy to swallow, and capable of delivering a kick on the way down.
The Brooklyn lovebirds stick to what they do best on their third album, which reprises the formula that made their previous record, Grand, an underground success.

Norah Jones
Featuring
In the wake of her 2002 blockbuster debut, Norah Jones became an in-demand duet partner, popping up on albums from all manners of musicians.
This compilation helpfully rounds up 18 of these guest appearances, including a cut by the Jones-fronted country cabaret outfit the Little Willies, and what impresses is the range of collaborators and the consistency of the music.
Anybody who called Norah up for a duet was clearly smitten by her way with slow-burning seduction, as they almost without fail cast her in that role for their own recordings, smoothing out rough edges or adding some sultry sophistication.

Yaz
Reconnected Live
In 2008, Clarke and Moyet united for a tour of the U.K., Europe, and North America.
The concerts were recorded and the result is this two-CD set.
Clarke revamped and re-recorded the backing tracks for the two Yazoo albums, so these in-concert performances have a warmer, fuller instrumental sound.
Clarke still plays and sequences the tunes live, but today’s technology has smoothed out the brittle high end that made some of Yazoo’s songs sound like video game soundtracks.
For her part, Moyet’s voice has aged well. It’s richer and deeper; her vocals are even more affecting than they were 26 years ago.

Sufjan Stevens
Age Of Adz
The Age of Adz (pronounced Odds) is Sufjan Stevens’ first full-length collection of original songs since 2005’s conceptual pop opus Illinois.
While the sounds on this record are distinctly “artificial” (drums machines and analog synths reign supreme), the proclamations of the songs are unabashedly visceral, sung loudly, with a backdrop of insistent orchestration.
The result is an album that is perhaps more vibrant, primary and explicit than anything Sufjan has done before, incorporating themes that are neither historical nor civic, but rather personal and primal.
