Congratulations

Congratulations is a collection of nine individual musical tours de force sequenced to flow with sonic and thematic coherence.

Produced by MGMT and Sonic Boom, the album was recorded throughout 2009 in Upstate New York, Malibu and Brooklyn and features the band’s core duo (Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser) performing with Matt Asti, Will Berman and James Richardson, their live band.

Emotion and Commotion

On Emotion & Commotion, Jeff Beck returns with an eclectic mix of tracks that find the guitar virtuoso accompanied by a handpicked cast of talented musicians, as well as several songs accompanied by a 64-piece orchestra.

Beck recorded the album late last year at Sarm Studio’s in London with award-winning producers Steve Lipson and Trevor Horn.

To create the album’s diverse sound, Beck used a number of musicians, including appearances by members of his current band - drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, bassist Tal Wilkenfeld and keyboardist Jason Rebello.

The album also includes contributions from a trio of singers: Imelda May (“Lilac Wine”), Olivia Safe (“Elegy For Dunkirk”) and Grammy -winner Joss Stone (“I Put A Spell On You” and “There’s No Other Me”).

I Learned the Hard Way was produced by Bosco Mann and recorded on an Ampex eight-track tape machine by Gabriel Roth in Daptone Records’ House Of Soul studios, the record drips with a warmth and spontaneity rarely found since the golden days of Muscle Shoals and Stax.

The Weakerthans come from Winnipeg, Manitoba, the geographic center of North America.

She & Him make music for an eternal springtime, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up.

They occupy an alternate universe where the saddest of songs feel as warm as sun showers; the rain may be coming down, but somewhere nearby, everything looks bright.

What began as a fascinating, no-strings attached collaboration on 2008’s Volume One has evolved into a bona fide touring band, and She & Him are here to stay.

Deschanel and Ward are as comfortable and complementary a musical pair as Les Paul and Mary Ford; hearing them again on Volume Two feels like getting together with two old friends.

This time, the harmonies have grown more angelically layered, the string arrangements more dramatic, the songwriting even sharper and more confident. But as with Volume One, the prevailing mood is bittersweet, dreamy, and romantic.

The first ever live album from Detroit’s WHITE STRIPES, recorded in Canada!

In the summer of 2007, shortly after the release of their 6th album ‘Icky Thump’, embarked on an ambitious journey across Canada. The plan was to play a show in every province and territory in Canada, from B.C. to Newfoundland to Nunavut.

“Having never done a tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog, from the ocean to the permafrost” says Jack White. “We wanted to play out of the way towns that don’t usually get shows - the shows are better, it’s better for the people, it’s a better experience, it’s way more unique, something interesting is going to happen - hopefully”.

What the album does best is document one of the biggest bands in the world, playing to local crowds in small towns.

Some of these towns were so small that many of the locals had no idea who The White Stripes were - they just knew something big was going on in their town.
This forced a band that had been together for a decade to go back to a place reminiscent of the first shows they ever played together.
