Keith Jarrett
Rio
On April 9, 2011 Keith Jarrett returned to South America for the first time in decades to perform three solo concerts.
The third and final concert found him in Rio de Janeiro in front of a packed house and enthralled audience.
Inspired by the electrifying atmosphere, the pianist pulls a broad range of material from the ether: thoughtful/reflective pieces, abstract sound-structures, pieces that fairly vibrate with energy.
The double album climaxes with a marvelous sequence of encores.

John Scofield
Moment’s Peace
On his previous disc, Piety Street, it was grooving gospel. A Moment’s Peace showcases the guitarist’s softer side.
It’s a collection of ballads comprised of original material (“Already September” and “Simply Put”) to jazz standards (“I Loves You Porgy” and “You Don’t Know What Love Is”), each played with his signature phrasing and woven through with elements of soul-jazz, post-bop, subtle funk, and even country, despite the laid-back feel. Scofield’s sidemen this time out include drummer Brian Blade, organist Larry Goldings, and bassist Scott Colley.

Willie Nelson, Wynton Marsalis, Norah Jones
Here We Go Again
2011 collaboration from Willie Nelson, Wynton Marsalis and Nora Jones, who join forces to celebrate the music of Ray Charles.
Country music legend Willie Nelson and Pulitzer Prize-winning jazz artist and Jazz at Lincoln Center Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis share more in common than their multiple Grammy awards.
They also share great respect and admiration for the late musical pioneer Ray Charles. Nelson and Marsalis joined musical forces for a two-night Jazz at Lincoln Center concert event at New York City’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Their set list explored the legacy of Charles, cleverly sequencing the songs to tell the story of a love affair from beginning to end and beyond.
This fine idea was made finer by the inclusion of fellow multiple Grammy winner Norah Jones, whose style suggests a middle ground between Nelson and Marsalis.

Jack Bruce
Rope Ladder to the Moon
DVD containing a documentary from British bassist (and former Cream member) Jack Bruce.
In 1970, Jack released a Jazz-orientated LP of his own compositions called Songs For A Tailor.
This 55 minute film, made at the same time, takes Jack from the Gorbals, via Cream, to his island called Sanda, playing the cello, the sitar and thundering away on the organ of the Albert Hall in London, while featuring many of the tracks from his LP.
With his strong socialist principles, Jack Bruce himself provides the striking commentary. Originally shown on the BBC in 1971.
