Tangerine Dream - Winter In Hiroshima

Tangerine Dream

Winter In Hiroshima

Four separate cds forming part of the ‘Five Atomic Seasons’ are now in stock.

“A series consisting of 5 parts (each on one CD) commissioned by a Japanese businessman who turned 82 years old in 2006. The series tells musically about his youth when he was studying and living in two cities—Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

The five compositions had to be 54 minutes in length each. Parts one and two tell of spring and summer 1945, which the client spent living in Nagasaki, while he lived in Hiroshima in the autumn and winter of 1945, where he survived the dropping of the first atomic bomb.

Spring and Summer describe the normal atmosphere in the city (of Nagasaki) with some of the rising premonitions of what will happen on August 9th, 1945 (when Nagasaki was bombed). Autumn and Winter in Hiroshima musically mirror what happened after August 6th, 1945 (when Hiroshima was bombed).”

Tricky - Mixed Race

Tricky

Mixed Race

Mixed Race is Tricky’s most passionate album to date.

Musically his production work takes influences from UK, Jamaica, the US, North Africa and French music. The album is an intense lyrical journey with temptation, reflection, mischief and misbehavior. T

here’s a wealth of knowledge distilled within the music as Tricky approaches twenty years of recording.

“Every album is a learning experience and this is concentrated music, there’s no dilution” said Tricky of his new collection, “I’ve spent my life going between cultures; Mixed Race is about that in a very direct way.”

Ninja Tune - XX Vol 1 & 2

Celebrating 20 years in the music biz is special enough. But to have been truly groundbreaking and still be around that long is even more reason to celebrate.

September 2010 marks two whole decades since MATT BLACK and JON MORE (aka COLDCUT) first released music under the imprint of NINJA TUNE. To mark the occasion the label has selected 2 discs worth of unreleased gems with a sprinkling of new cuts from the label’s future, taken from the family of BIG DADA, COUNTER & Ninja Tune.

There are two separate 2cd sets.

Roots Manuva meets Wrong Tom - Duppy Writer

Roots Manuva meets Wrong Tom

Duppy Writer

Duppy Writer, the new album features reworks of Manuva tracks by a producer known as Wrong Tom.

Manuva first met Wrong Tom just before the release of his 2008 album Slime & Reason, and asked him to produce a dub version of his single “Buff Nuff.”

Manuva was so pleased with the result that he eventually commissioned Wrong Tom to rework selections from a variety of his previous albums.

Duppy Writer collects these new versions, offering new, dubbed out takes on classic Manuva tracks, all of which appear with slightly different titles (e.g. “Motion 5000” becomes “Motion 82”).

James Blackshaw - All Is Falling

James Blackshaw

All Is Falling

All Is Falling was the first of James Blackshaw’s albums on which he played electric 12-string guitar.

But while earlier efforts of his drew comparisons to vintage folk guitarists, this is far from folk-rock, and indeed so far from folk or rock that it might not be appropriate to even categorize it as popular music. Blackshaw also plays piano, glockenspiel, and percussion on the record, though when he does use 12-string electric guitar, it’s not heavily amplified.

The eight largely instrumental pieces (voices are heard counting at one point) on the 45-minute CD—divided into tracks plainly titled “Part 1,” “Part 2,” and so on up to “Part 8”—are much more like a classical work than a folk one, performed with considerable assistance from other musicians on violin, cello, flute, alto saxophone, and glockenspiel.

Morcheeba - Blood Like Lemonade

Morcheeba

Blood Like Lemonade

Blood Like Lemonade is a cornerstone for the band and marks the return of essential member Skye Edwards on vocals since their debut release in 2003.

Morcheeba’s multi-instrumentalist, Paul Godfrey, says: ‘This is the record we should have made after “Big Calm” but we had to travel treacherous terrains to get back to our natural habitat.’

Skye adds: ‘Friends have been asking, “What does the new Morcheeba record sound like?” My answer? “It sounds like Morcheeba” Of course!’
