Megadeth
Th1rt3en
Dave Mustaine and his perennial band of thrash pioneers return with what is, perhaps unsurprisingly, their thirteenth studio album.
This follow-up to 2009’s Endgame is the first Megadeth album since 2001’s The World Needs a Hero to feature the bass playing of founding member Dave Ellefson, and was produced by Johnny K (Staind, Disturbed).
Containing some of the band’s darkest and heaviest material in years, it combines new songs with older ones written years ago but never recorded.

Iced Earth
Dystopia
Limited digipak edition includes three bonus tracks and sticker.
While not a concept album, founder Jon Schaffer admits there are unifying themes to several of the songs.
In much the same way Horror Show (the band’s tribute to classic characters from literature and movies) was born, band leader John Schaffer said his interest in dystopian themes in music and movies led him to try his hand at that genre as well. The end result is Iced Earth meets the nightmarish offspring of Brave New World and Blade Runner.

Mastodon
The Hunter
The Hunter, the follow-up to 2009’s critically embraced Crack The Skye, was recorded in the band’s hometown as well as in Los Angeles with producer Mike Elizondo.
As with all of their albums, Mastodon, which is bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders, guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds, guitarist Bill Keliher, and drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor, decided to take a completely different tack and musical approach to the music on this album. The band feels confident that fans will be excited and fulfilled by what they will hear.

Opeth
Heritage
Opeth’s roots in the doom-laden shade of occult-infused Scandinavian Death Metal and dark romanticism are undeniable and will never elicit apology.
But the transcendent emotional and melodic heights achieved on Heritage marks a new chapter in the storied quintet’s career. Band leader, singer, guitarist, songwriter and long-running consistent member Mikael Åkerfeldt has reshaped the pathway forward for his artistic vehicle without sacrificing the hard won spiritualism of previous endeavors.
This masterwork from the Stockholm, Sweden based virtuoso musicians is a mind-boggling dense maze of tempo shifts, off-time signatures, percussive experimentation and warped rhythms.
It is all expertly melded together by a myriad range of emotional outpouring and breezy melodic optimism which soars above the songs like a woodland spirit surveying its forest. There are multiple hints of darkness but Heritage moves the band forward into broader dimensions.
