Norah Jones
Featuring
In the wake of her 2002 blockbuster debut, Norah Jones became an in-demand duet partner, popping up on albums from all manners of musicians.
This compilation helpfully rounds up 18 of these guest appearances, including a cut by the Jones-fronted country cabaret outfit the Little Willies, and what impresses is the range of collaborators and the consistency of the music.
Anybody who called Norah up for a duet was clearly smitten by her way with slow-burning seduction, as they almost without fail cast her in that role for their own recordings, smoothing out rough edges or adding some sultry sophistication.

Wyatt / Atzmon / Stephen
For the Ghosts Within
New Robert Wyatt project.
The album is chiefly composed of jazz standards such as “In a Sentimental Mood” and “What a Wonderful World”, made in collaboration with the saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and the violinist Ros Stephen.
The interpretations aren’t so much radical as gently estranged, with Wyatt’s voice drifting through the songs like a good-natured wraith, accompanied by Stephen’s reflective violin and Atzmon’s deft, Middle Eastern-themed clarinet and sax.

John Zorn
What Thou WIlt
Composed in 1999 at the turning of the millennium, Contes de Fées is one of Zorn’s classical masterworks.
A powerful violin concerto with a virtuosic and lyrical solo part and dramatic, colorful orchestral accompaniment, it receives its best performance to date by the Tanglewood Orchestra under the baton of Ryan McAdams and features the remarkable soloist Stephanie Nussbaum.
Also included are two intense pieces of Crowleana, the bizarre and expansive solo piano piece . ? . and the whirlwind numerological miniature for three celli dedicated to the legendary new music virtuoso Fred Sherry 777, which maestro Charles Wuorinen considers one of Zorn’s most remarkable works.
