Congratulations

Congratulations is a collection of nine individual musical tours de force sequenced to flow with sonic and thematic coherence.

Produced by MGMT and Sonic Boom, the album was recorded throughout 2009 in Upstate New York, Malibu and Brooklyn and features the band’s core duo (Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser) performing with Matt Asti, Will Berman and James Richardson, their live band.

Here Lies Love

2010 two CD collaboration between the former Talking Heads leader and British Dance music maestro Fatboy Slim.

Here Lies Love is a song cycle - improbably poignant, decidedly surreal, surprisingly thought provoking—about the rise and fall of the Philippines’ notorious Imelda Marcos.

It was conceived by David Byrne; composed by Byrne and Fatboy Slim and performed by a dream cast drawn from the worlds of Indie Rock, Alt Country, R&B and Pop.

Byrne’s taste in collaborators is as imaginative as it is impeccable, including Cyndi Lauper, Steve Earle, Dap-Kings vocalist Sharon Jones, and Natalie Merchant.

Along with vocals turns from such stars as Tori Amos and the B-52’s Kate Pierson, Byrne works with rising indie rockers St. Vincent and My Brightest Diamond; New York chanteuses Nellie McKay and Martha Wainwright; and dance-music divas Roisin Murphy and Santigold. Byrne himself appears as the voice of imperialistic America on ‘American Troglodyte,’ a send-up that wouldn’t have seemed out of places in Talking Heads’ True Stories.

Filmed throughout the band’s 2009 rehearsals and acclaimed summer tour, No Distance Left To Run finds all four members of Blur together for the first time in nine years.

With previously unseen archive material alongside new interviews and reportage, the film recounts the highs and lows of a very British band from the late ‘80s to their headline return at Glastonbury and Hyde Park.

The result is a musing on Englishness and identity and a portrait of friendship and resolution.

The second DVD features their live perfomance at Hyde Park in the summer of 2009.

The Weakerthans

The Weakerthans come from Winnipeg, Manitoba, the geographic center of North America.

Having built a fanatical fanbase touring through the US and Canada, the Weakerthans finally offer a permanent record of one of their fantastic live shows, recorded on the tour for their triumphant 2007 release Reunion Tour.

With an expanded line up that includes trumpet, violin and female vocals, the Weakerthans run through songs from all four of their albums, in front of an adoring hometown audience, singing along with every lingering word.

She & Him

Volume Two

2010 sophomore release from Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward.

She & Him make music for an eternal springtime, when the temperature is warm enough to go riding with the top (or at least the windows) rolled down and the radio turned up.

They occupy an alternate universe where the saddest of songs feel as warm as sun showers; the rain may be coming down, but somewhere nearby, everything looks bright.

What began as a fascinating, no-strings attached collaboration on 2008’s Volume One has evolved into a bona fide touring band, and She & Him are here to stay.

Deschanel and Ward are as comfortable and complementary a musical pair as Les Paul and Mary Ford; hearing them again on Volume Two feels like getting together with two old friends.

This time, the harmonies have grown more angelically layered, the string arrangements more dramatic, the songwriting even sharper and more confident. But as with Volume One, the prevailing mood is bittersweet, dreamy, and romantic.

White Stripes

The first ever live album from Detroit’s WHITE STRIPES, recorded in Canada!

In the summer of 2007, shortly after the release of their 6th album ‘Icky Thump’, embarked on an ambitious journey across Canada. The plan was to play a show in every province and territory in Canada, from B.C. to Newfoundland to Nunavut.

“Having never done a tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog, from the ocean to the permafrost” says Jack White. “We wanted to play out of the way towns that don’t usually get shows - the shows are better, it’s better for the people, it’s a better experience, it’s way more unique, something interesting is going to happen - hopefully”.

What the album does best is document one of the biggest bands in the world, playing to local crowds in small towns.

Some of these towns were so small that many of the locals had no idea who The White Stripes were - they just knew something big was going on in their town.
This forced a band that had been together for a decade to go back to a place reminiscent of the first shows they ever played together.

Rat A Tat Tat

Rat A Tat Tat was recorded in the summer and fall of 2009, largely on the east side of Toronto at Ill Eagle, Carlin Nicholson and Mike O’Brien of Zeus’ studio.

Zeus, Collett’s long time backing band contributed throughout both releases along with a bevy of guests. Rat a Tat Tat is Jason Collett at his most playful, robust and revelatory.

A true marvel.
