Death Cab For Cutie - Codes and Keys

Death Cab For Cutie

Codes and Keys

Codes and Keys still sounds like a Death Cab album, but the guys explore the benefits of the recording studio more than ever before, boosting Jason McGerr s drums with bits of programmed percussion and scaling back their guitar riffs to sparse, articulate clumps of notes that ring out into the ether.

Theres a new-found emphasis on open space, on electronics, on Kid A-inspired webs of feedback and distortion that are draped behind the songs like ambient backdrops. It’s not all machines and Eno-esque production.

David Byrne - Ride Rise Roar

David Byrne

Ride Rise Roar

Ride, Rise, Roar is a concert film featuring David Byrne that blends riveting onstage performances with intimate details of the creative collaborations that make the music and performance happen.

Shot with multiple cameras over several concerts during the 08/09 tour, the film blends the energy and charisma of classic Talking Heads with the heartfelt pathos of David Byrne and Brian Eno’s most recent collaboration.

Between the songs, the film achieves an unprecedented intimacy with David Byrne and the band, documenting behind-the-scenes auditions, rehearsals, and interviews with key players while revealing the creative process that led to the show’s unique fusion of pop music and modern dance.

Matt & Kim - Sidewalks

Matt & Kim

Sidewalks

Matt & Kim are the indie pop equivalent of Red Bull and vodka: sweet, easy to swallow, and capable of delivering a kick on the way down.

The Brooklyn lovebirds stick to what they do best on their third album, which reprises the formula that made their previous record, Grand, an underground success.

Deerhunter

Halcyon Digest

The quartet have established themselves as one of the most innovative and important bands to emerge from the US in recent years and Halcyon Digest is sure to bolster this newfound status of theirs.

The recording sessions took place at Chase Park Transduction in Athens with Ben H. Allen helping to co-produce the album.

Final track, ‘He Would Have Laughed’, was recorded separately by Bradford Cox and is dedicated to musician Jay Reatard who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Interpol - S/T

Interpol

S/T

On their fourth and self-titled full-length, Interpol return to Matador, the label that released their first two albums.
It is their last album to feature bassist Carlos Dengler, whose departure was announced in May. Mixed by Alan Moulder (Depeche Mode, Smashing Pumpkins, the Killers), there s a greater emphasis on the rhythm section, which carries the band through a set of dark, thematically connected songs.

Great Lake Swimmers - Lost Channels

Great Lake Swimmers

Lost Channels

U.S. only deluxe vinyl LP edition includes a bonus seven-inch single plus a download code for the entire album.

Lost Channels is the fourth album by the masters of ‘Ambient Zen Americana’, Great Lake Swimmers.

Often compared to the likes of Nick Drake, Iron and Wine, Red House Painters and ‘After the Gold Rush’-era Neil Young, the new album by Tony Dekker and Co. nods occasionally in the more commercial direction of R.E.M. while simultaneously continuing to deliver the ‘starkly evocative and melodically melancholic’ (Paste magazine) brand of Folk Rock for which his band are renowned.

Jenny and Johnny - I’m Having Fun Now

Jenny and Johnny

I’m Having Fun Now

Jenny and Johnny first started working together in Los Angeles in 2005, after being introduced by Conor Oberst.

The exuberance of love songs like ‘Scissor Runner’ mask some of the record’s darkness, with Lewis chronicling the economic demise of her beloved California in ‘Big Wave’, Rice’s haunting vocal on ‘Animal’, and both songwriters raising a middle-finger kiss off in the acerbic ‘My Pet Snakes’.

The overall result is genuine and original pop music for ‘Right Now’. This is not a Rilo Kiley record, a Jenny Lewis record, or a Johnathan Rice record. This is Jenny and Johnny
