Paralytic Stalks

Quirky, funky indie pop outfit Of Montreal offer their 11th full-length with Paralytic Stalks, finding band brainchild Kevin Barnes at his most personal since 2007 release Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?

Recorded in Athens, Georgia at Barnes’ home studio with engineer Drew Vanderberg (Deerhunter, Best Coast) and a crew of session musicians (a first in Of Montreal history), Barnes lays bare his emotions to ponder revenge, self-loathing, and relationship turmoil through an eclectic ‘60s pop, revivalist prog, and pseudo country-tinged lens.

This One’s For Him - A Tribute to Guy Clark

2012 two CD collection, released to coincide with Guy Clark’s 70th birthday.

Artists include Rodney Crowell, Lyle Lovett, Joe Ely, Shawn Colvin, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Emmylous Harris and John Prine, Patty Griffin, Ron Sexsmith, Rosanne Cash, Steve Earle, Vince Gill, Jerry Jeff Walker and others.

The collection was lovingly produced by Grammy-winning producer Tamara Saviano (Beautiful Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster) and frequent Clark co-writer Shawn Camp (“Sis Draper,” “Magnolia Wind”). The tribute includes 30 tracks by 33 Americana artists who are friends and colleagues of Clark or who have been influenced by his remarkable compositions.

A signature of our time, Leonard’s baritone holds us like the voices of Hank, Frank and Ray. These are songs that nobody knows and everyone will treasure.

Complementing Cohen’s signature baritone on Old Ideas are the exceptional vocalists Dana Glover, Sharon Robinson, The Webb Sisters (Hattie and Charley Webb) and Jennifer Warnes. The album’s cover design and drawings are Cohen’s own.

Clear Heart Full Eyes

Clear Heart Full Eyes is the debut solo release from Hold Steady and Lifter Puller front man Craig Finn.

The record takes a simpler route than the intricate musings of the Hold Steady, with Americana and country influences manifesting here.

Recorded in Houston, Texas, with producer Mike McCarthy and friends from bands such as Phosphorescent and White Denim during a 5-day session, the album showcases Finn s superb lyrical narrative and accompanying melodic vocals.

Live At Celtic Connections

Filmed in January 2011 at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow as part of the annual Celtic Connections festival, this superb performance by The Richard Thompson Band marks their first live concert DVD release for five years.

The first half of the show focuses on Thompson’s latest Dream Attic album with the second half given over to songs reaching back as far as his first solo album Henry The Human Fly and up to recent releases such as Sweet Warrior and The Old Kit Bag .

Provincial

Debut solo album from the Weakerthans main main. Provincial began with a simple idea: to explore four different roads in Manitoba.  “They’re the places I kept going back to. ” Samson talked to relatives, friends and strangers; he visited archives, a tuberculosis sanatorium turned RV park, a forgotten cemetery. The result is this collection of evocative songs, an album that fits beside Bruce Springsteen s Nebraska, Sun Kil Moon s Ghosts Of The Great Highway, Mountain Goats Tallahassee. While the teenage craving of “Cruise Night” recalls the Cars, “Stop Error” invokes Bach; for “When I Write my Master s Thesis, ” Samson s inspiration was all jukebox serendipity Bob Dylan s “When I Paint My Masterpiece, ” sailing out from the corner of a Yukon dive bar. Provincial is a record full of fierce, tuneful, vivid stories.

Resolution is the follow up to their Grammy nominated album Wrath. Produced by Josh Wilbur, the album features 14 songs and comes in a deluxe softpak with artwork by longtime art director Ken Adams. Resolution is a 100 percent trend-free and intelligently constructed album that could power a small country with its unstoppable energy and potent riffery. Guitarist Mark Morton says that “unlike any other album before, this album was written over the course of a couple of years, at least with the guitars. Willie and I starting songwriting as soon as we started touring Wrath.” As a result, Resolution boasts some of the most Punk Rock moments and some of the bluesiest moments of the band’s recorded career, perhaps fostered along by the liveliness of the writing-on-the-road process.
