Ceremonials

Ceremonials is a stunningly accomplished record by an artist teetering on the wind-blown top of her game, an extraordinary testament to what Florence refers to as “my incorrigible maximalism”. The pounding epiphanic positivism of `Spectrum’; the galloping massed-ranks majesty of `All This And Heaven Too’ and `Shake It Out’; the triumphant emotional battle cries of `No Light No Light’ and `Heartlines’. Spend a little time with Ceremonials and what strikes you first and foremost is the apparent confidence of its execution. Recorded with her full band over five weeks this summer in Abbey Road’s legendary Studio 3, Ceremonials is another product of her long-running collaboration with producer Paul Epworth. Together they’ve created an expansive art-pop vision that can be both captivatingly tender while still frequently soaring to places where it can overwhelm the senses like an emotive tidal wave.

Dave Mustaine and his perennial band of thrash pioneers return with what is, perhaps unsurprisingly, their thirteenth studio album.

This follow-up to 2009’s Endgame is the first Megadeth album since 2001’s The World Needs a Hero to feature the bass playing of founding member Dave Ellefson, and was produced by Johnny K (Staind, Disturbed).

Containing some of the band’s darkest and heaviest material in years, it combines new songs with older ones written years ago but never recorded.

Bad as Me, Tom Waits first studio album of all new music in seven years, features a stellar cast of musicians, and co-production and songwriting from Kathleen Brennan.

While the trademarks of Waits’ 21st century music are showcased in tracks such as “Chicago” and Hell Broke Luce, there also nods back, in ballads such as “Last Leaf” and the barroom chorale “New Year’s Eve.”

Raised Right Men is a modern take on Waits’ blues clatter, while Satisfied employs his take on gospel.

Sigh No More was recorded at Eastcoast Studios and produced by Markus Dravs who has worked with such superstar acts as Arcade Fire, Bjork and Peter Gabriel. El Rego

El Rego

El Rego is a true legend of African Soul Music. Here for the first time on album are 12 of his greatest recordings from the late 60’s and early 70’s hand-picked by Daptone Records. Afro-Soul collector/DJ Frank Gossner had spent years combing West Africa tracking down 45’s by Theophile Do Rego (aka El Rego) before finally meeting him face to face in his home in Benin. As you would expect the concert is also a visual feast, with graphics, animation and imagery blending to enhance and illustrate the music. This is truly a live experience not to be missed.
